Brockton’s federal delegation to announce $5 million in funding for city pool, sewage disposal
BROCKTON – The Massachusetts congressional delegation, including U.S. Representative Stephen Lynch, and U.S. Senators Edward Markey and Elizabeth Warren, will be visiting the City of Brockton Friday, February 24.
Mayor Robert F. Sullivan will welcome the lawmakers to Brockton City Hall to announce $3 million in federal funds for the renovation of the Lawrence R. Cosgrove Memorial Pool and $2 million for the city’s biosolids sludge dryer project. The funds will come from the FY2023 Omnibus Appropriations Bill which was signed by President Joseph Biden.
The Cosgrove Pool, known as “the Beach” to many neighborhood residents, was constructed in 1966 and is one of just four 50-meter pools in the state. It has been a summer staple for Brockton residents and is in need of a full renovation. The renovation will involve the pool, a bath house, and a new splash pad.
The biosolids sludge dryer will address concerns and costs associated with transporting and disposing sewage sludge in Brockton.
