Provisional President Jocelerme Privert visits New York to sign the Paris Agreement on climate change

The Provisional President of the Republic Jocelerme Privert left Port-au-Prince this Wednesday, April 20, 2016 for New York to sign the Paris Agreement on climate change. During a press conference at the Diplomatic Lounge at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, President Privert spoke of the importance of “the Paris Agreement for an island country like Haiti which has been facing for years the impact of greenhouse gas emissions and threatening our ecosystem ”.

“There are natural disasters to which the country is constantly threatened without forgetting this wave of drought which affects several regions putting entire populations in food insecurity”, underlined the President of the Republic, Jocelerme Privert indicating the need to take measures to protect our environment, reforest more than 137 hectares of land with plants and limit greenhouse gas emissions.

Haiti as a signatory to the Paris Agreement will be able to benefit from the funds provided for the application of policies, strategies, regulations, action plans and measures to fight against climate change, supported the President of the Republic, Jocelerme Privert who will return to Port-au-Prince on Saturday April 23, 2016.
