The electoral process still at an impasse: President Privert clears his customs (Video)

While the elections to fill the vacant seats at the level of the two branches of parliament and the second round of the presidential election were to be held on April 24 following the agreement of February 5, everything suggests that these contests will not take place. For the Head of State, Jocelerme Privert, there is no need to be alarmed because the delay in holding the elections is not attributable to his inaction.

“I have done everything in my case to have elections within the limits set by the constitution” declared the Provisional President on Wednesday before taking the plane to New York to initial the Paris agreement on climate change.

Responding to journalists’ questions, President Privert recalled that he had two major responsibilities within the framework of the implementation of the said agreement, which were to form a government of consensus and to set up a new Provisional Electoral Council.

Recalling that parliament also had its role to play in the application of February 5, President Jocelerme Privert insisted that the legislative power had taken nearly 45 days to allow the entry into office of a new Government. “Everyone had to assume their responsibilities and all the responsibilities that I had, I carried them out” supported the Head of State.

Regarding the date often raised for the holding of the elections, the President did not fail to recall that it was never the responsibility of the Executive to set the day for the organization of these contests. but that of the CEP. “Today there is a CEP which is working on the evaluation of the electoral machine in accordance with the agreement of February 5” underlined President Privert, specifying that the electoral body was working on an action plan to complete the process. electoral.

Asked about the establishment of the 2015 election evaluation and verification commission, President Privert once again explained that this structure is the result of a set of discussions with several political actors and members of society. civilians who unanimously demanded that all light be shed on the allegations of massive fraud recorded during the last elections. For President Privert, this verification commission will be able to give credibility to the electoral process and guarantee stability in the country.
