Baker taps Lon Povich as his top attorney

Brighton- Today, Governor-elect Charlie Baker announced Lon Povich, former Assistant US Attorney and Deputy Chief Legal Counsel to Governor Weld, will serve as Chief Legal Counsel to the Baker-Polito administration.

“Lon’s experience in large, private sector organizations, combined with his public sector leadership in the US Attorney’s office and with Governor Weld make him a valuable addition to our administration,” said Governor-elect Charlie Baker. “Assembling a team of experienced professionals committed to making Massachusetts great is our top priority and Lon joins a bipartisan team ready to hit the ground running in January.”

“I am honored to join the Baker-Polito administration and humbled to add my experience to this exemplary team,” said Lon Povich. “I know Governor-elect Baker to be a dedicated public servant with the imagination and drive needed to make Massachusetts a better place to live for everyone and I am excited to get to work.”

About Lon Povich

Lon currently serves as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at BJ’S Wholesale Club, Inc. where he is the chief legal counsel to the company with over 25,000 employees. Prior to his position with BJ’s, Lon was General Counsel to the Boston Consulting Group, served Massachusetts as Governor William Weld’s Deputy Chief Legal Counsel for three years and served as Assistant United States Attorney for the Economic Crimes Unit. Lon is dedicated to giving back to the community and has served on multiple boards including the Greater Boston Food Bank, Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, the town of Wellesley’s Advisory Committee, and on the advisory committee of the Massachusetts Superior Court’s  Business Litigation Section. Lon was also a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission and screened judicial candidates for Governors Romney and Patrick. Lon recently received the Good Apple Award for “demonstrated dedication to public service, fairness and social justice” from the Massachusetts Appleseed Center for Law and Justice.
