BROCKTON, MASS. PRESS RELEASE – Sydné Marrow, Chief of Staff to Mayor Moises Rodrigues, is retiring following five and a half years of dedicated service to the City of Brockton. Her retirement officially began on Friday, September 11, 2026. Initially appointed by Mayor Robert Sullivan, Ms. Marrow continued her service under Mayor Rodrigues to ensure essential operational and strategic continuity.
Throughout her tenure, she actively managed daily municipal operations and contributed significantly to major civic endeavors. Her notable achievements include securing the Marvelous Marvin Hagler statue and the Frederick Douglass bust, advancing the Brockton High School construction initiative, and serving as the primary liaison connecting the mayor’s office with municipal department heads, local business leaders, and community organizations.
Former Deputy Chief of Staff Nelson Fernandes has been appointed to succeed Ms. Marrow. During his tenure as Deputy Chief, Mr. Fernandes’s accomplishments have included:
Integrating a 24/7 virtual operator system for resident inquiries and aiding the municipal transition to Brockton.gov.
- Securing grant funding and coordinating execution for three city-sponsored World Cup watch parties at Campanelli Stadium and City Hall Plaza.
- Launching Mayor’s Office Hours to connect residents directly with Mayor Rodrigues.
- Creating the Mayor’s Community Advisory Council to build direct communication channels between residents and city leadership.
- Chairing the Quality of Life Task Force to coordinate multi-departmental efforts improving neighborhood conditions, public spaces, and city services.
As Chief of Staff, he will oversee the modernization of city operations, direct policy alignment across departments, and manage strategic public-private initiatives for Brockton.
Mr. Fernandes previously founded JJ’s Caffe, a nationally recognized restaurant formerly located on North Main Street in Brockton.
