“We must get out of the stillborn agreement of February 5 built on lies for a peaceful transition” pleads the FUSION (video)

hree days before the electoral deadline set by the February 6 agreement, Edmonde Supplice Beauzile and Rosemond Pradel, respectively President and Secretary General of the FUSION of Social Democrats have made a set of proposals with a view to “achieving a peaceful transition ”during a press briefing given HQ of this party this Thursday in Port-au-Prince.

“The stillborn agreement of February 6 cannot, in any case, constitute the lasting solution to the deep political crisis facing our country,” said Edmonde Supplice Beauzile. In this position on the current conjuncture marked by political uncertainty, the economic slump and the thinly veiled threats of the two main donors (the United States and the European Union), the FUSION recalled that “if we are in this impasse, it is because of the frauds… and the violence which characterized the elections of 2015 ”.

The decision of Léopold Berlanger’s Provisional Electoral Council to publish the results of the by-elections for 70 municipalities while the Evaluation and Verification Commission is likely to complicate the situation, according to the FUSION which nevertheless wishes that the truth be made on the electoral contests of August 9 and October 25, 2015.

In this note of the conjuncture read by the former senator, the party issued a warning against all those who want to “use this Commission to satisfy their personal interests and political aspirations” while recalling that the MERGER was excluded from the consultations which should lead to the establishment of this entity, a “real obligatory step” in order to put back in the saddle an electoral process marred by irregularities of all kinds.

In terms of the crisis exit proposal, the FUSION pleads in favor of an “inclusive approach by bringing the main actors of public and social life around a table with a view to negotiating and concluding a real agreement for a peaceful transition. ”.

“There are no quick fixes to the Haitian political problem…. The solutions for a lasting exit from the crisis must begin now without waiting for May 14 to take stock of the failure of the February 6 agreement ”.

Concerning the recent shattering exits of the American Secretary of State John Kerry, of the person in charge of the Haiti file at the State Department Keneth Merten…., The Secretary General of the FUSION Mr. Rosemond Pradel recalled that “foreign interference in the files relating to the Haitian elections do not date from today. It is the fault of our leaders who must stop lobbying foreign embassies to come to power ”.

Responding to a question on the management of the successor of Michel Martelly, the President of the FUSION, Edmonde Supplice Beauzile stressed that “the provisional President came from an agreement with a contested parliament. He knew that it would be impossible to implement this agreement built on a lie ”. She advises Provisional President Jocelerme Privert to “pull himself together because he has only one choice: to initiate dialogue immediately for a way out of the crisis”.
