Haiti-Politic: Satisfaction and reservations expressed following the report of the electoral verification commission

P-au-P, May 31, 2016 [AlterPresse] — Political parties express their satisfaction and their reservations or rejection after the publication of the report of the Independent Electoral Evaluation and Verification Commission (Cieve), made public on Monday May 30, 2016.The candidate for the presidency of the Pitit Desalin platform, Jean Charles Moise, welcomed this report. However, he rejects the proposal to cancel the presidential election, which would imply, he said, the resumption of all legislative and municipal elections.

Calling on the Cep to apply the electoral decree against fraudsters, Moise remains convinced that the electoral machine organized the frauds during the presidential election of October 25 in favor of a candidate, in this case Jovenel Moise, of the Haitian Party tèt kale ( Phtk).

The report of the commission reveals “numerous offenses” which would have been committed during the conduct of the elections, in particular frauds as well as forgeries in public writing which constitute “a crime according to the Haitian laws”.

“Decisions of the Bcen (National Electoral Litigation Offices) would have caused serious prejudice to the candidates. The competent bodies must deepen the information and act accordingly, in accordance with the law, ”denounces the commission.

For his part, the strategic advisor of the Phtk, Guichard Doré, rejects out of hand the recommendations of the commission report.

It is a strategy of President Jocelerme Privert to cancel the entire electoral process and dissolve parliament, he says.

In its report, the Commission recommended the resumption of the controversial presidential election of 2015 as well as the revision of several dozen sentences handed down by the Electoral Disputes Offices.

Departure bans were reportedly issued by the government commissioner, Me Danton Léger against the 9 members of the former Provisional Electoral Council (Cep) of Pierre Louis Opont and the former executive director of the institution, Mosler Georges, indicates the newspaper Le Nouvelliste.

The ceremony of handing over the report of the Independent Electoral Evaluation and Verification Commission (Cieve) to President Jocelerme Privert yesterday at the National Palace.
