Mayor Robert F. Sullivan issues “Emergency Order – Mask Advisory” for Brockton

The advisory strongly recommends the use of masks in all indoor spaces in the City

BROCKTON, MA – In response to the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, Mayor Robert F. Sullivan has issued an “Emergency Order – Mask Advisory” for the City of Brockton.

The mask advisory includes the following recommendations:

  • All persons over the age of 2 years are strongly recommended to wear a mask or face covering, such as fabric or surgical mask, covering the nose and mouth, while indoors in any public space, including but not limited to retail establishments, restaurants, bars, performance venues, social clubs, houses of worship, personal care and fitness establishments, event spaces, and municipal buildings.
  • Customers in indoor restaurants, bars, and dance venues are recommended to only remove face coverings when they are actively eating or drinking. Patrons ordering at a bar or standing at a bar while not actively eating or drinking are urged to wear masks. Guests are also urged to wear a mask when on an indoor dance floor.

The order does not apply in the following circumstances:

  • When alone in a workplace or alone in a room with a closed door.
  • Outdoor dining, outdoor events, or any other outdoor activities.
  • Informal gatherings at private residences in which no compensation for use of the property is paid to the owner.
  • Performers, while performing, provided that they are at least six feet away from any customers.
  • Persons for whom a mask or face covering creates a health risk or is not safe, or to children under two years of age.

All reasonable efforts will be made to secure voluntary compliance with this

Emergency Order – Mask Advisory, including the distribution of masks and/or personal advisory by city officials.

“The rapid rise of COVID-19 cases in the City has been extremely alarming,” said Mayor Robert F. Sullivan. “As the weather gets colder, and indoor gatherings begin to increase, it is paramount that everyone takes all of the necessary precautions to limit the spread of the virus. I stand by the implementation of this Emergency Order – Mask Advisory and I strongly urge the public to actively practice the recommendations detailed in the advisory to ensure the health and safety of all residents and businesses in the City.”

Currently, the City of Brockton has an ‘Average Daily Cases’ count of 70.4 positive cases per 100,000 with a ‘Positive Test Rate’ of 5.83%. At this moment, there are 82 residents in the hospital and 16 currently in the ICU. 464 residents have perished due to the virus.
