City of Brockton to hold Transgender Day of Remembrance Event at City Hall

Event to include a flag-raising ceremony, resource tables, and artistic performances
BROCKTON, MA – In recognition of Transgender Awareness Week, the City of Brockton has partnered with Brockton Public Schools and Health Imperatives to hold a Transgender Day of Remembrance at City Hall to honor the transgender community of Brockton.

At the event, Mayor Robert F. Sullivan will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. There will be resource tables for educational purposes, a transgender flag-raising ceremony, a candlelight vigil/moment of silence, and artistic performances.

The theme for this Transgender Day of Remembrance is: “Give us our roses while we’re still here.” This theme was chosen by Brockton youth, who participate in Health Imperatives’ LGBTQIA youth support group BrAGLY (Brockton Alliance of LGBTQIA Youth), as a way to communicate to the public the need to show love and appreciation to transgender youth in the present.

Initiatives taking place across the City during Transgender Awareness Week:

  • Residents are invited to donate the cost of a bouquet of roses to the Transgender Emergency Fund of Massachusetts.

  • Brockton Public Schools educators have been given transgender awareness resources to incorporate into their curriculums during Transgender Awareness Week.

  • City Hall employees have been given the opportunity to take a pledge agreeing to include their pronouns as part of their email signature and wear pronoun pins to raise awareness of using the correct pronouns for individuals and to create an inclusive City Hall environment.

  • Time: 4:30 pm
