Port-au-Prince, May 23, 2016.- The Prime Minister, HE Mr. Enex JEAN-CHARLES, participates in the opening of the work of the world summit on humanitarian action in Istanbul, Turkey around the theme “Stand up and act for reduce the global humanitarian need. ”More than 5,200 participants, including 65 heads of state and government, 177 members of the United Nations, communities affected by crises, NGOs, the private sector and United Nations agencies contribute to the achievement of this summit.

At this summit, humanitarian partners across the world pledge to stand up and take action for humanity.

Today, more than 130 million people around the world seek assistance and protection. Each year the humanitarian needs increase and more people seek much more aid for an unlimited period. This also leads to higher costs of assistance and protection. UN-led petitions have increased six times, from US $ 3.4 billion in 2003 to nearly $ 21 billion today.

The UN Secretary General laid out his vision for the summit from an agenda for humanity focusing on a core set of commitments: to prevent and end conflicts; respect the standards that protect humanity; change people’s lives and invest in humanity.

The Prime Minister, HE Mr. Enex JEAN-CHARLES, in his brief and brilliant statement, placed Haiti at the center of global humanitarian action. To this end, he referred both to the natural disasters which ravaged the country and to the precariousness of the living conditions of the population. Also, he took the opportunity to question the “humanitarian” that experts tend to place today at the opposite of growth and sustainable development.

The Haitian state, concludes the Prime Minister, is in solidarity with the results of this high-level summit for the well-being of peoples and nations.
